DIY Goddess Headpiece for Halloween Goddess Costumes

In ancient times, it was said in Greek mythology that the goddesses ruled the skies and controlled the world. These goddesses were the epitome of female beauty, wisdom and purity and represented the very qualities that all mortal women strove to possess.  Bewitching, benevolent but at times ruthless, they have influenced mankind for thousands of years. And while the prevalence of Greek mythology has been reduced to libraries and history books, the idea of what these goddesses may have looked like continue to fascinate us to this very day. For this week at iLoveSexy Blog, we bring you this captivating DIY Goddess Headpiece tutorial, which is perfect for pairing with all of your goddess-inspired costumes and outfits this Halloween.  It’s incredibly fun and easy to make, and we even added the Midas touch at the end by covering it in gold. Luxurious, elegant and regal, this lovely goddess headpiece will make you look as beautiful as Aphrodite, as pure as Artemis and as fierce as Athena. And don’t forget to stick around until the end of the tutorial for some gorgeous costumes you can wear with this headpiece!

DIY Greek Goddess Headpiece - What you'll need

What you will need:

Bundles of leaves (You can find these at craft stores that sell fake flowers, such as Jo-Ann or Michaels)
Thick floral wire
Thin floral wire
Floral tape
Gold spray paint

DIY Greek Goddess Headpiece - Step 1

1. Take four pieces of floral wire and measure out the pieces to determine how much material you will need to fit the headpiece comfortably on your head. Leave about two inches of overlap on each end of the wires to make attaching them easier.

DIY Greek Goddess Headpiece - Step 2

2. Braid two pieces of floral wire together and do the same to the remaining two pieces. You should end up with two pieces of wire afterwards.

DIY Greek Goddess Headpiece - Step 2

3. Wrap both ends of the floral wire securely around each other by tightly intertwining them. If you find it difficult to get the floral wire to stick to each other, feel free to hot glue the ends to each other for added sturdiness.

DIY Greek Goddess Headpiece - Step 3

4. Take a long piece of floral tape and wrap it around the entire headpiece. Make sure to cover any pieces of protruding wire.

DIY Greek Goddess Headpiece - Step 5

5. If your floral tape is not sticky enough, take a small piece of scotch tape to wrap up the end.

DIY Greek Goddess Headpiece - Step 6

6. Remove the leaves from your bundle of leaves. They should peel off the stem easily but if not, you can cut them off with scissors. Make sure to leave about an inch of the leaves’ stem to make wrapping it onto the floral wire easier.

DIY Greek Goddess Headpiece - Step 7

7. After you have gathered your leaves, loosely place them around your headpiece to gauge how many pieces you need.

DIY Greek Goddess Headpiece - Step 8

8. Take your thin floral wire and wrap your leaves tightly to your headpiece. Repeat this step until you have covered the entire headpiece with leaves. Don’t worry about how different the colors look against each other, as we will be spray painting the entire headpiece later on.

DIY Greek Goddess Headpiece - Step 9

9. This is how the headpiece should look after you have added all your leaves. There is no need to make all your leaves look perfectly uniform, as the random placement of the leaves make this headpiece look more natural.

DIY Greek Goddess Headpiece - Step 10

10. For an added touch, we included the beads that our bundle of leaves came with and wrapped them to our headpiece with more thin floral wire. This step is not mandatory but if you have any additional flowers, beads or pieces of jewelry you would like to add, feel free to do so.

DIY Greek Goddess Headpiece - Step 11

11. Take your headpiece and place it over some paper towels, newspapers or scratch paper. Make sure to have proper ventilation. Spray paint the entire headpiece with a generous coat, making sure to check all of the undersides to see that the paint is evenly distributed. Wait for the first coat to dry and then spray on a second coat.

DIY Greek Goddess Headpiece - Final Picture1

Here is the completed goddess headpiece! Doesn’t it look simply divine? The headpiece actually looked beautiful enough on its own before we spray painted it, but we kicked things up a notch by coating it in shiny gold for a more royal touch. We recommend wearing this with your hair down, with perhaps some voluminous waves. For makeup, add some gold and bronze eye shadow, bronzer and highlighter for a sun-kissed, goddess glow to match with your gold headpiece.

DIY Greek Goddess Headpiece - Final Picture2

And of course, such a lovely goddess headpiece needs an alluring goddess costume to go along with it. Here are some of our selections from our Goddess costume collection that would look simply celestial with your headpiece!

But that’s not the case right now, so I love to go out and have fun and meet new people. I can be quite social, but I also work a lot of promotional events so sometimes the club scene gets old. I love to go out to eat and sit and have a bottle of wine on a patio.

– I would say it’s feminine/edgy. I like to be girly, but with a spike here and there.  I love to look classy and put together, but in a sexy way.

16. We see from your Instagram account that you really love food. What are your favorite foods? Anything in particular you’re good at cooking?

– I am pretty good at cooking most things I attempt, but I love to roast chicken and veggies, definitely a healthy favorite.

17. How do you stay in such great shape? Do you have any diet or exercise tips that you like to abide by?

– I try to eat pretty clean for the most part, but I do find it important to also curb cravings in moderation. I try to look for the healthy alternative first. As far as working out, I love walking so I walk everywhere I can, and I like to do crunches, and squats.

18. You have won many photogenic competitions. Any tips for how people can look more photogenic in their pictures?

– I think good eye contact helps! I look into the soul of the camera, and try to connect with the person who will be looking at the photo.

DIY Starfish Hair Clip for Halloween Mermaid Costumes

As little girls, playing dress-up was just another part of childhood. Princesses, goddesses, unicorns–the possibilities were endless when you used your imagination. Have you ever dreamed of transforming into a mermaid when you were young? Perhaps the charm of Ariel from The Little Mermaid made you wish that you had fiery red hair, flippers and sea animal friends to splash around the deep blue sea with. While you can’t necessarily transform into a mermaid in reality, you can definitely look like one! Get ready for some under-the-sea fun with this fun and colorful DIY starfish hair clip tutorial! Starfish hair clips are a unique and elegant way to accessorize your hair and are incredibly easy to make. These starfish hair clips can be worn casually for a day out on the beach, or formally for beach-themed weddings. But personally, we can’t wait to break them out for Halloween this year. Paired with one of our mermaid costumes from our Halloween collection, you’ll be on your way to looking like a princess of the ocean in no time! As usual, check out the lovely pieces we’ve selected for pairing with these gorgeous starfish hair clips at the end of our tutorial!

DIY Starfish Hair Clip - What you will need

What you will need:

Dried Starfish (You can purchase them at arts and crafts stores such as Jo-Ann)
Hot glue gun
Acrylic paint
Glitter (optional, not pictured)
Hair clips

DIY Starfish Hair Clip - Step 1

1. Take your starfish and lay it out on a piece of paper or paper towel. Paint your starfish with your selected color and depending on the opacity and thickness of your paint, you may need 2-3 coats. Wait half an hour to an hour before each coat to make sure you do not smear the previous layer. To save on time, you may leave the bottom of your starfish unpainted if you wish, since the underside will not be visible.

DIY Starfish Hair Clip - Step 2

2. This step is optional, but we decided to add some glitter. While the paint on your starfish is still wet, place your starfish on a piece of paper and sprinkle as much glitter as you’d like onto your starfish. For this particular starfish, we used a generous amount of purple and white glitter.

DIY Starfish Hair Clip - Step 3

3. Take your hot glue gun and apply a small glob to wherever you want to start placing your rhinestones or pearls. For this starfish, we decided to start at the center and work our way around the arms.

DIY Starfish Hair Clip - Step 4

 4. Use a pair of tweezers or your fingers to place the pearl on top of the hot glue. Carefully press it down for 5 seconds until you know your pearl is securely glued onto the starfish.

DIY Starfish Hair Clip - Step 5

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 wherever you wish to place your rhinestones and pearls.

DIY Starfish Hair Clip - Step 6

6. Feel free to go a little crazy with the decorating! We decided to go with a simple design for our purple starfish hair clip, but stick around for a look at the other pieces we’ve designed for more ideas.

DIY Starfish Hair Clip - Step 7

7. And here we are with the finished design of our starfish. Check to make sure all your rhinestones and pearls are secure before proceeding to the next step.

DIY Starfish Hair Clip - Step 8

8. Taking your felt, cut out a small circle approximately the size of the center of your starfish. Glue this piece of felt to the center. You want this to be secure because it will be the base for your hair clip to attach to.

DIY Starfish Hair Clip - Step 9

9. Apply a thin, straight strip of hot glue along the felt. Taking the ends of the hair clip, press it against the hot glue. Make sure to not allow the bottom side of the clip to touch the hot glue as dries, because you don’t want the clip to get stuck together. Hold it for about 30 seconds to one minute to make sure that the hair clip is secure and the glue has dried.

DIY Star Fish Hair Clips - Step 10

10. And voilà! Now you have a beautiful starfish clip to wear on your hair! We got a little bling-crazy with the other starfishes we had in the packet. Since they were all different sizes, we decided to get creative with all of them! Which one do you like best? Will you be using any of these designs?

And now, here are a few hair style ideas that you can wear these starfish hair clips with! Use them as part of a mermaid costume, for a photo shoot or just for dressing up for a day at the beach!

Alyshia Ashlee’s Exclusive Interview Part I

Alyshia Ashlee Exclusive Interview Part I

When it comes to modeling, certain people have the ability to look into the lens of the camera and translate their natural beauty and sex appeal into a perfect picture. Every photograph is as much a performance as it is an eternal moment preserved in a tangible form. Professional model, Alyshia Ashlee, not only possesses this ability, but also the natural girl-next-door appeal that so many men gravitate towards. Radiant, buxom and fresh-faced, it’s no wonder why the bombshell beauty has made quite a splash in the modeling industry, with features in popular men’s magazines such as Playboy, Maxim, FHM and much more.

Hailing from the beautiful city of Toronto, Canada, Alyshia Ashlee got her start in modeling from childhood, competing in modeling competitions and securing finalist and first place positions. From there, she earned the attention of top photographers and publications, making a name for herself in the industry as Miss Playboy Mexico’s Cyber Girl of the Month and FHM Norway’s Cover Model, just to name a few. And while she does possess an impressive list of achievements, she has no intention of slowing down. In fact, she is just getting started. When it comes to the blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty, there is much more than meets the eye. Here at the iLoveSexy blog, we are pleased to present this exclusive interview, where we had the opportunity to get to ask both the model and the girl-next-door a few questions.

1. Tell us 3 fun facts that you would want us and other readers to know about yourself.

– I am allergic to the cold

– I have a cat named Mr. Kitty

– I lived in Merida , Yucatan . Mexico for 3 months.

2. What would you say has been the highlight of this year for you so far?

– There are so many highlights! It is hard to choose just one! I would say getting flown out to LA to test for Playmate in the spring was probably the best. I got to stay at the Playboy Mansion, have dinner and movie night with Hef and everyone for 4 days straight. Not to mention I was able to enjoy the beautiful property and shoot with a photographer I have admired for a long time.

3. You’ve been modeling since you were 5 years old. What drew you to the modeling industry at such a young age? What motivated you to stick with it?

– I would say at the age of 5, I just liked the attention. People used to always tell my parents that I needed to model so my mom put me in it. I just loved to feel pretty and pampered; that hasn’t changed haha. But I definitely stopped for a while after I had gone to New York for a competition and didn’t get what I went for, so it hurt a little. But after a while, I focused a career as a makeup artist and photographers kept telling me to model for them and here I am today!

4. Do you feel that modeling for Playboy has helped open up a lot of other doors for you? If so, how?

– Modeling for Playboy has definitely opened up doors for me! I have been able to have some great poster signings, and invited to various events that definitely are beneficial to my career. I have also received more work all together with photo-shoots and other magazine features. I am heading to Jamaica in September to shoot some pretty awesome stuff! I feel lucky I will get to wear your amazing bikinis.

5. Modeling is such a fast-paced, cutthroat industry. How do you deal with criticism? What do you feel makes you stand out from the rest of the competition?

– I try to take it with a grain of salt. It’s sometimes hard because we are literally criticized for everything and anything. Some days, I read things saying I’m too fat. Then the next day, I read that I am too skinny.  I think as long as I am happy with who I am and I am booking work, I could care less what all the other people think. There is a saying along the lines of “ have you ever seen a hater doing better then you are?” and I would have to say NO.  As far as standing out, I would say: my professionalism , the fact that I am natural, and that I stay grounded. I don’t let anything go to my head; I do my absolute best to be polite and nice to everyone I meet.

6. What do you think are the top three traits a person has to have if they want to make it in the industry?

– Ambition

– Drive

– Confidence / self worth ( you have to know exactly who you are and what you will tolerate)

7. What would you say is the biggest misconception about models?

– That we don’t eat, or that we are high on ourselves. I know plenty of models who are modest and down to earth.

8. What is your favorite type of lingerie to shoot in? Do you prefer more fancy, boudoir-style photo shoots or a more relaxed and casual setting?

– It definitely depends on my mood , but I love to feel sexy and boudoir for sure. There is just something about that look that makes every women feel seductive.

9. As someone who is so accomplished, you must have had the opportunity to travel a lot. What were some of your favorite places you’ve traveled to?

– I loved visiting Costa Rica and New York the best! I am heading to Jamaica in September so I am excited about that!

10. We see that you’re also a makeup artist as well. At what age did you start experimenting with makeup? How did you develop your makeup artistry skills?

– I don’t recall the exact age I started but I have been fascinated for a long time. I started doing makeup for photo shoots at the age of 14/15 and later went to school for all areas, including Special Effects, Theatre, Fashion, Film/TV, Bridal and Airbrush.

We hope you have enjoyed learning a little about Alyshia Ashlee. When it comes to breaking down the dumb blonde stereotype, Alyshia Ashlee has both the beauty and the brains to do just that. Her down-to-earth personality and grounded attitude combined with her ethereal beauty will take her far in the modeling industry . We can see great things happening for her in the future. This concludes Part 1 of her exclusive interview. But wait, we are not finished yet! Stay tuned for Part 2 of this interview, which will be posted next week!

DIY Flapper Headband for Halloween Flapper Costumes

When it comes to fashion, the Roaring 20s just might be one of last century’s most influential decades. The Prohibition era was all about social change, excess and glamour, which eventually gave us the iconic “Flapper” style. A flapper was fun, bold and liberated. Most importantly, she embodied what it meant to be free. Glitzy and glamorous, she is unapologetic in her indulgence of the finer things in life.  For this week’s tutorial, we will be creating a DIY Flapper headband, inspired by Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby”.  Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan always looked elegant and gorgeous in her jeweled headpieces.  And with this simple and affordable tutorial, you too can create a similar headpiece, whether it’s for Halloween this year or an upcoming Prohibition-style party. This flapper headpiece is perfect for pairing your fringed dresses with and looks amazing with vintage finger waves. Don’t forget to stick around until the end of the tutorial for some of our costume ideas and suggestions. Now let’s get started!

DIY Flapper Headband - What you will need

What you will need:

Lace or embroidered trim
A decorative brooch or applique
Hot glue gun

DIY Flapper Headband - Step 1

1. Measure the lace trim against your head and cut your ribbon into 2 pieces accordingly. There should be at least 7 inches of material for each piece.

DIY Flapper Headband - Step 2

2. Apply hot glue to the end of the ribbon that you will be attaching to the lace trim.

DIY Flapper Headband - Step 3

3. Press the end of the ribbon to the end of the lace trim and hold it there for 30 seconds or until you know the hot glue has dried. Repeat this step on the other side.

DIY Flapper Headband - Step 4

4. Apply hot glue to your applique. If your applique is made out of metal likes ours is, be really careful not to burn yourself. The hot glue is quick to heat up the metal. Use a generous amount of glue to make sure the lace is able to carry the weight of the applique.

DIY Flapper Headband - Step 5

5. Press the applique to the lace trim and hold it there until it is secured. Feel free to add hot glue to any loose flaps.

DIY Flapper Headband - Step 6

6. Take a feather and apply glue along the thin, plastic band. Try to keep the line of glue as straight as you can.

DIY Flapper Headband - Step 7

7. Press the feather on the back of the lace trim. You want the middle and top of the feather to be visible behind your applique. Apply as many feathers as you would like. We added three :)

DIY Flapper Headband - Step 8

And now you have a glamorous flapper headband! Does this or does this not look beautiful? We think that the sparkling silver applique perfectly complements the bridal-inspired embroidered lace. You can use whichever color pairings you would like, whether you’d rather go for a dark and mysterious look or a vintage, old-fashioned look.

DIY Flapper Headband - FinishedLook

You can wear the crown wherever you want on your head, but we highly recommend wearing just before the hairline. This perfectly showcases the the headband’s decor and looks lovely with both straight or wavy and long or short hair.

DIY Flower Crown Tutorial for Halloween Fairy Costumes

Ever since the rise in popularity of summer music festivals, flower crowns have become one of this year’s biggest trends. Perfect as an accessory, flower crowns evoke a fun and  lighthearted sense of whimsicality. Not only are they sweet and feminine, they can look good on just about anyone. Whether worn at summer music festivals, photo shoots or just for a beautiful day out, flower crowns have the ability to bring out the romantic fairy in all of us. For this week’s DIY, we’re going to get started a little early on Halloween. We’re going to do a DIY Flower Crown Tutorial. If you’re trying to decide what to be for Halloween this year, why not try a fairy costume?  Putting together a fairy costume is simple and straightforward, and the end results will always be fun and flirtatious, with just a hint of sexiness. Whether you want to go with a cute pixie look or a dark, seductive fairy look, styling it with your very own custom-made flower crown is easy and affordable. Stay tuned at the end of this tutorial to see a few of our suggestions of costumes you can pair this gorgeous flower crown with.   In the meantime, let’s get started on our tutorial!

DIY Flower Crown: What you will need

What you will need:

Fake flowers
Floral wire
Floral Tape
Hot Glue Gun

DIY Flower Crown - Step 1

1. Measure the length of your floral wire according to circumference of the top of your head. Take three pieces of floral wire and braid/twist them to form a thicker wire.

DIY Flower Crown - Step 2

2. Twist the ends of the wire together to create a crown. It should look something like this. If the crown happens to be too large for your head, pinch and twist the wire to shorten it until you feel the crown is a comfortable fit.

DIY Flower Crown - Step 3

3. Take a long piece of floral tape and wrap the entire crown to hide the twisted wires. This step is not mandatory but wrapping the floral tape does make a huge difference with how neat the flower crown will turn out.

DIY Flower Crown - Step 4

4. Take your fake flowers and begin popping them off their stems. They should come off with relative ease, but if they happen to be glued on, simply cut them as closely to the base of the stem as possible.

DIY Flower Crown - Step 5

5. Slide some leaves off the stem as well if you wish to add leaves to the flower crown. Adding a few leaves will create more contrast and really help bring out the vibrancy in the other flowers.

DIY Flower Crown - Step 6

6. Snip the stem of the flower close to the base. You will want the base of the flower to be as flat as possible so that you can hot glue it more easily to the crown.

DIY Flower Crown - Step 7

7. Place a moderate amount of hot glue around the base of the flower.  Be careful not to burn yourself!

DIY Flower Crown - Step 8

8. Press the flower base and hold it there for around thirty seconds. Since the crown’s base is sort of thin, you will want to make sure that the flower is completely secured to the crown upon letting go.

DIY Flower Crown - Step 9

9. Here is the finished product! You can add as many flowers as you can fit to the crown. Feel free to experiment with different colors and sizes. If you decide to wear this with a fairy costume, you can choose flowers that would complement it.

DIY Flower Crown - Finished product

And now you have your very own flower crown to enjoy! We saw so many beautiful flowers at the dollar store so we couldn’t help but go a little crazy at the flower section. You can make yours with large, voluminous flowers ala’ Lana Del Rey style or you can use smaller flowers for a more pixie woodland fairy look. For Halloween costume ideas, here are a few suggestions we think would pair beautifully with flower crowns.

DIY Burlesque Lingerie: Fringe Bra Tutorial

Blurring the lines between sexy and raunchy, there is something so sensual and elegant about burlesque that has continued to captivate audiences even today. Beautiful women, clad in lingerie, tantalize and entrance a crowd through the art of dance, comedy and most of all, tease. Their beautifully erotic costumes are meant to appeal to the senses and give just a hint of imagination of what’s underneath. While satin, lace and bows are just among a few items used in constructing their outfits, the fringe bra has been widely popularized in burlesque theater and gives off a sexy and flirtatious vibe, reminiscent of the cheeky 1920’s flapper era. Adding fringe to your bra will add a fun, retro and enticing playfulness, worthy of any boudoir style photo shoot or even just for a fun lingerie party.  If you’ve ever wondered how to make a fringe bra, look no further! This DIY Fringe Bra tutorial is a quick, simple and affordable way to channel your inner burlesque showgirl without having to drop the big bucks on a fancy, expensive bra. And best of all, you can make fringe items out of just about any lingerie you have lying around. Keep on reading to find out how!

DIY Fringe Bra: What you will need

What you will need:

1-2 yards of fringe (depending on your bra size)
Small bow
Hot glue gun

DIY Fringe Bra: Step 1

1. Cut your fringe into 1-inch to 1.5 inch sections. That way, will be easier to glue your pieces of fringe onto your bra in a precise, uniform fashion.

DIY Fringe Bra: Step 2

2. After you have finished cutting your pieces of fringe, make sure none of the the sections have loose threads or loose pieces of fringe. If they do, cut them off.

DIY Fringe Bra: Step 3

3. We’re going to glue two layers of fringe, one on top of the other. To make things easier, we will start with the bottom layer. Measure about a half-inch from the top of the bra to gauge where you will be gluing your fringe.

DIY Fringe Bra: Step 4

 4. Heat up your glue gun and place the hot glue along the thread.

DIY Fringe Bra: Step 5

5. Press the fringe against the bra and hold it there for 30 seconds or until you know the fringe is securely glued on. Be careful not to burn your hands!

DIY Fringe Bra: Step 6

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have glued your fringe from one end of the cup to the other.

DIY Fringe Bra: Step 7

7. Begin gluing your second layer of fringe, this time on the top of the cup. Make sure the top layer of fringe covers the bottom layer just enough so about half an inch of the bottom fringe is peeking from underneath.

DIY Fringe Bra: Step 8

8. Repeat step 4 and 5 for the top layer. It should look something like this when you have finished gluing the top layer. Can’t you just see the burlesque magic already?

DIY Fringe Bra: Step 9

9. After you have finished both cups, the fringe bra should look like this. You can add one layer instead of two but personally, we like how voluminous and flouncy the bra looks with two layers.

10. You can stop at Step 9 if you’d like, but we felt like adding a little extra something. Since the black bow that this bra came with seemed to get swallowed in all that red fringe, we cut it off. Instead, we took a simple red bow and hot-glued it to the center of the bra.

Ta-da! As you can see, the small red bow adds the final touch, drawing attention to the center and adding an overall balance to the fringe bra. You can add whatever you like to the bra, whether it be additional ribbons, rhinestones or lace. Don’t be afraid to get creative! Whatever you think will help bring out the burlesque side in you. 😉
